1978

Gianni Versace founds the fashion house

Gianni Versace, born 1946 in Reggio Calabria, opens his first boutique on Via della Spiga in Milan and presents his debut collection at La Permanente in March. The original company, registered as Gianni Versace Donna, will grow into the global luxury house headquartered today at Piazza Luigi Einaudi 4, Milan.

1982

Move into housewares

Versace expands beyond fashion into jewellery, china and textiles for the home — the first foothold of what will later be formalised as Versace Home.

1988

The Greca (Greek Key) motif debuts

Gianni Versace introduces the Greek Key in the Fall-Winter 1988 ready-to-wear collection. Decades later, La Greca returns as a defining pattern across Versace Home upholstery and bed linen.

1989

Atelier Versace haute couture

The Atelier Versace haute couture line is launched, presented for the first time in Paris.

1992

Versace Home interiors launch

Versace becomes one of the first fashion houses to launch a dedicated home-interiors line — beginning with textiles and quickly expanding to porcelain tableware through a partnership with the German manufacturer Rosenthal that is still running today.

1994

Vanitas chair

The wooden Vanitas chair, the earliest dated piece in the Versace Home furniture canon, debuts. It will be re-upholstered in velvet and re-presented at Salone del Mobile 2025.

1997

Gianni Versace assassinated; Donatella becomes Creative Director

Gianni Versace is murdered outside his Miami Beach home, Casa Casuarina, on 15 July 1997. His sister Donatella Versace, who had been Vice President since 1978, becomes Creative Director — a role she will hold until 2025.

2014

Blackstone takes a minority stake

Blackstone purchases a 20% stake in Versace for €210 million — the brand's first non-family ownership.

2019

Capri Holdings acquires Versace

On 2 January 2019, Capri Holdings (the former Michael Kors group) closes its acquisition of Versace for approximately US$2.1 billion.

2020

Versace Home furniture licensed to Lifestyle Design Group

Versace signs a licence with Lifestyle Design Group — the Italian home-design division of US-based Haworth Group — for the production and distribution of Versace Home furniture. The licence covers furniture only; textiles and accessories remain in-house, ceramics continue under Rosenthal, and wallpaper and floor tiles stay with their respective licensees.

2023

Rosenthal × Versace turns 30

The Rosenthal × Versace partnership marks 30 years with a limited mug collection that revives a 1993 design — gold-toned Barocco motifs paired with a Medusa lid.

2024

"If These Walls Could Talk" at Palazzo Versace

Salone del Mobile installation at the brand's original Milan atelier on Via Gesù 12 debuts the Medusa '95 Conversation Sofa, La Greca Bed, Lady Desk, and Moon Island sofa and armchair.

2025

Prada Group acquires Versace

Announced 10 April 2025 and closed 2 December 2025: Prada Group acquires Versace from Capri Holdings for €1.25 billion (~US$1.375 billion). The same year Donatella Versace steps down as Chief Creative Officer (effective 12 March) and becomes Chief Brand Ambassador (1 April); Dario Vitale is appointed Chief Creative Officer.

The Versace logo etching on the frame is the family's primary fashion-house mark — visible at coffee-table register beside outdoor seating. Different from the indoor La Greca coffee tables (id 408) which use a wider material palette; outdoor tightens to varnished steel.

Marble top — Galaxy Stone or Super White, glossy

Top in marble, two outdoor-rated colours: Galaxy Stone or Super White. Glossy finishing. Same outdoor marble palette as the Stiletto Outdoor coffee tables (id 438) and dining table (id 2458) — outdoor format reduces the marble palette to two weather-appropriate stones. Galaxy Stone (deep dark ground with metallic flecks) reads as the dramatic anchor; Super White reads as the bright architectural neutral.

Lower top — coordinated marble

Below the upper marble top: a lower top in coordinated marble. Two-layer construction with marble at both the upper visible level and the lower shelf level — turns the coffee table into a two-tier surface (upper for drinks/serving, lower for stacked books/magazines). The lower-top marble is coordinated with the upper top — same Galaxy Stone or Super White, not a contrasting stone. Structural and visual continuity in the marble register.

La Greca motif — etched, not printed

The Versace logo (La Greca) is rendered as etching on the steel frame — engraved into the metal rather than printed or applied as a sticker. Etching is permanent and weather-stable: rain, UV, salt spray, and cleaning solvents won't fade or peel the mark. Reads as the brand's primary signature on the frame's vertical surfaces, visible at standing height as well as seated height.

Square, rectangular, and round formats

Six SKUs across two geometric families: three rounds (Ø 60, Ø 90, Ø 120) and three rectangles/squares (90×90, 120×90, 120×120). All are H 31 cm — the same low/lounge tier height. The licensed manufacturer's published copy doesn't specify sealing protocol — only "glossy finishing" on the marble. Galaxy Stone and Super White are dense marbles often used in outdoor stone applications, but marble outdoors requires periodic resealing against UV bleaching, chlorine spray (if pool-adjacent), sunscreen oil staining, and rain stains. Treat as you would any luxury outdoor marble surface — pad-protect glasses and sunscreen bottles, wipe spills promptly, plan annual professional resealing in heavy-use Gulf-summer conditions.

Etching is permanent — the logo is engraved into the steel frame, not painted or printed. UV won't fade it (unlike paint or pigment), and saltwater won't peel it (unlike adhesive or appliqué).
