Story

Milestones

1978

Gianni Versace founds the fashion house

Gianni Versace, born 1946 in Reggio Calabria, opens his first boutique on Via della Spiga in Milan and presents his debut collection at La Permanente in March. The original company, registered as Gianni Versace Donna, will grow into the global luxury house headquartered today at Piazza Luigi Einaudi 4, Milan.

1982

Move into housewares

Versace expands beyond fashion into jewellery, china and textiles for the home — the first foothold of what will later be formalised as Versace Home.

1988

The Greca (Greek Key) motif debuts

Gianni Versace introduces the Greek Key in the Fall-Winter 1988 ready-to-wear collection. Decades later, La Greca returns as a defining pattern across Versace Home upholstery and bed linen.

1989

Atelier Versace haute couture

The Atelier Versace haute couture line is launched, presented for the first time in Paris.

1992

Versace Home interiors launch

Versace becomes one of the first fashion houses to launch a dedicated home-interiors line — beginning with textiles and quickly expanding to porcelain tableware through a partnership with the German manufacturer Rosenthal that is still running today.

1994

Vanitas chair

The wooden Vanitas chair, the earliest dated piece in the Versace Home furniture canon, debuts. It will be re-upholstered in velvet and re-presented at Salone del Mobile 2025.

1997

Gianni Versace assassinated; Donatella becomes Creative Director

Gianni Versace is murdered outside his Miami Beach home, Casa Casuarina, on 15 July 1997. His sister Donatella Versace, who had been Vice President since 1978, becomes Creative Director — a role she will hold until 2025.

2014

Blackstone takes a minority stake

Blackstone purchases a 20% stake in Versace for €210 million — the brand's first non-family ownership.

2019

Capri Holdings acquires Versace

On 2 January 2019, Capri Holdings (the former Michael Kors group) closes its acquisition of Versace for approximately US$2.1 billion.

2020

Versace Home furniture licensed to Lifestyle Design Group

Versace signs a licence with Lifestyle Design Group — the Italian home-design division of US-based Haworth Group — for the production and distribution of Versace Home furniture. The licence covers furniture only; textiles and accessories remain in-house, ceramics continue under Rosenthal, and wallpaper and floor tiles stay with their respective licensees.

2023

Rosenthal × Versace turns 30

The Rosenthal × Versace partnership marks 30 years with a limited mug collection that revives a 1993 design — gold-toned Barocco motifs paired with a Medusa lid.

2024

"If These Walls Could Talk" at Palazzo Versace

Salone del Mobile installation at the brand's original Milan atelier on Via Gesù 12 debuts the Medusa '95 Conversation Sofa, La Greca Bed, Lady Desk, and Moon Island sofa and armchair.

2025

Prada Group acquires Versace

Announced 10 April 2025 and closed 2 December 2025: Prada Group acquires Versace from Capri Holdings for €1.25 billion (~US$1.375 billion). The same year Donatella Versace steps down as Chief Creative Officer (effective 12 March) and becomes Chief Brand Ambassador (1 April); Dario Vitale is appointed Chief Creative Officer.

Inside

Construction

Curved metal frame, polished gold or chrome

The defining design move: "curved lines, a metal frame with polished Gold or polished chrome finishing, and the Medusa logo" — the manufacturer's own framing. The frame curves rather than running straight; the result reads softer and more sculptural than the Narcissus family's straight stem. Two finish options on the table and floor variants — the suspension is published in polished Gold only.

Total white opaline glass shade

Shade in total white opaline glass — milky-translucent, glows softly when lit. Different from the Narcissus family's aluminium-with-Barocco-interior shade or pongé fabric alternatives — Goddess uses opaline glass throughout. The opaline diffuses light from any direction, so the shade reads as a glowing white sphere or curve regardless of bulb placement.

Medusa logo on the frame

Decorative Medusa logo applied to the metal frame. Visible in both gold and chrome variants (the two table/floor finishes) — the Medusa is a single hardware accent. Different placement from Narcissus (which has the 3D Metal Medusa on the stem itself); on Goddess the Medusa sits on the frame rather than the body, reading more discreet.

Plexiglas diffuser with coordinated knob

Internal plexiglas diffuser, with an aluminium knob in coordinated finish (gold or chrome to match the frame). The diffuser frosts and spreads the bulb light evenly across the opaline glass shade interior; the knob is a small functional-decorative element on the body that picks up the frame finish. Same plexiglas diffuser approach as Narcissus, scaled for the Goddess silhouette.

Glazed glass + Barocco decoration on suspension

The single-pendant suspension variant adds: "glazed glass and Barocco decoration" — the pendant carries the Versace Barocco motif applied as decoration on the glazed glass body. Different surface treatment from the cluster suspension's plain opaline shades; the single pendant is the more decorated variant.

Materials

Fabrics & finishes

Curved frame + opaline glass shade

Curved frame + opaline glass shade

Detail of the family's defining geometry — the curved metal frame supporting the white opaline glass shade. Choose polished Gold for warm-register interiors paired with other Versace gold-trimmed pieces (Goddess sofa/sectional/armchair, La Greca pieces); choose polished chrome for cooler architectural rooms. The opaline shade reads identically in either frame finish.

Modules

Table lamp — Ø 25 × 43 H

Table lamp — Ø 25 × 43 H

Ø 25 × 43 H cm

Table lamp variant. At Ø 25 × 43 H it sits as a personal lamp on a side table or bedside — not a primary room lamp. Choose for bedside use beside the Goddess sofa family or as an accent on the V-Marble side table. Polished Gold or polished chrome frame.

Floor lamp — Ø 25 × 79 H

Floor lamp — Ø 25 × 79 H

Ø 25 × 79 H cm

The shortest floor variant. At 79 cm overall height it sits at low-register — beside an armchair as a directional reading light, or in a corner as a low-ambient piece. Lower than typical floor-lamp register; choose where a tall lamp would compete with the room's verticals.

Floor lamp — Ø 25 × 123 H

Floor lamp — Ø 25 × 123 H

Ø 25 × 123 H cm

Mid-height floor lamp. 123 cm overall — at standing-eye level for reading light beside a sofa or armchair. Same Ø 25 shade as the shorter and taller variants; only the stem length changes the function from low-ambient to focused-reading.

Floor lamp — Ø 25 × 167 H

Floor lamp — Ø 25 × 167 H

Ø 25 × 167 H cm

The tallest floor variant. 167 cm overall — places the shade above standing-eye level for ambient room lighting rather than focused task light. Vertical accent in a tall room; pairs proportionally with high-ceiling architectural spaces.

Suspension — single pendant Ø 40 × 41 H

Suspension — single pendant Ø 40 × 41 H

Ø 40 × 41 H cm

The single-pendant suspension. Ø 40 shade with the Barocco-decorated glazed glass — more decorative than the cluster variant. Hang above a small dining or breakfast table, an entryway, or a stairwell as a singular statement piece. Polished Gold frame published.

Suspension — cluster 88 × 83 × 88 H

Suspension — cluster 88 × 83 × 88 H

88 × 83 × 88 H cm cluster

The cluster suspension — multiple pendants grouped together as a single fixture, occupying a 88 × 83 × 88 envelope. Sized for primary dining table illumination or for a stairwell where multiple pendant points create a composed group. Plain opaline shades (no Barocco decoration on this variant).

Goddess family + Versace Home Lighting

The licensed manufacturer's Goddess family includes the seating line (sectional sofa id 391, sofa id 399, armchair id 401 — designed by Palomba Serafini per LLG news) plus this lighting set. The lighting SKUs are not individually credited to a designer on the LLG product pages. The separate Goddess LED table lamp (id 39641) debuted at Salone 2023; the standard non-LED lamps in this family pre-date that.

FAQ

Frequently asked

Different design vocabulary within the same lighting catalogue. Narcissus uses straight metal stems with aluminium-or-pongé shades and a Barocco-decorated interior reveal — graphic register. Goddess uses curved metal frames with white opaline-glass shades — sculptural register. The Goddess shade glows uniformly white; the Narcissus shade reveals interior pattern only when lit. Choose Goddess for soft, sculptural light; choose Narcissus for graphic, evening-mode design statement.

Different SKU, different launch. The Goddess LED table lamp (id 39641) is the 2023 Salone-launch variant — built around an integrated LED light source rather than a replaceable bulb. This Goddess lamp set is the standard non-LED family — table, floor, and suspension variants using replaceable bulbs in the opaline-glass shade. Same family vocabulary (curved frame, opaline shade, Medusa logo); the LED variant is the technical update for clients who prefer integrated LED.

Match the room's hardware register. Polished Gold pairs with the Goddess seating line (sofa, sectional, armchair, all of which have gold-base trim) and other warm-register Versace pieces. Polished chrome reads cooler — pairs with steel-and-marble interiors or with Stiletto family hardware (which is matt aluminium). The suspension is published in polished Gold only; if you need chrome on the pendant, look at alternative Versace suspensions (Versace Galaxy, Acropolis).

Function dictates. 79 H is the low-ambient register — sits beside a sofa or in a corner as a low fill light. 123 H is at standing-eye level — focused reading light beside an armchair or sofa. 167 H places the shade above eye level — ambient room light, vertical architectural accent in a tall room. The shade diameter (Ø 25) is constant across all three; only the overall height changes function.

Quantity and decoration. The single pendant is Ø 40 × 41 H with glazed-glass Barocco decoration — a decorated single-point statement. The cluster (88 × 83 × 88 H envelope) is multiple plain-opaline pendants grouped — a sculptural multi-point composition. Choose the single for small spaces (entryway, breakfast table, stairwell) where one decorated piece is the design feature; choose the cluster for primary dining tables or larger entryways where multiple light points compose a graphic group.
