Milestones

1978

Gianni Versace founds the fashion house

Gianni Versace, born 1946 in Reggio Calabria, opens his first boutique on Via della Spiga in Milan and presents his debut collection at La Permanente in March. The original company, registered as Gianni Versace Donna, will grow into the global luxury house headquartered today at Piazza Luigi Einaudi 4, Milan.

1982

Move into housewares

Versace expands beyond fashion into jewellery, china and textiles for the home — the first foothold of what will later be formalised as Versace Home.

1988

The Greca (Greek Key) motif debuts

Gianni Versace introduces the Greek Key in the Fall-Winter 1988 ready-to-wear collection. Decades later, La Greca returns as a defining pattern across Versace Home upholstery and bed linen.

1989

Atelier Versace haute couture

The Atelier Versace haute couture line is launched, presented for the first time in Paris.

1992

Versace Home interiors launch

Versace becomes one of the first fashion houses to launch a dedicated home-interiors line — beginning with textiles and quickly expanding to porcelain tableware through a partnership with the German manufacturer Rosenthal that is still running today.

1994

Vanitas chair

The wooden Vanitas chair, the earliest dated piece in the Versace Home furniture canon, debuts. It will be re-upholstered in velvet and re-presented at Salone del Mobile 2025.

1997

Gianni Versace assassinated; Donatella becomes Creative Director

Gianni Versace is murdered outside his Miami Beach home, Casa Casuarina, on 15 July 1997. His sister Donatella Versace, who had been Vice President since 1978, becomes Creative Director — a role she will hold until 2025.

2014

Blackstone takes a minority stake

Blackstone purchases a 20% stake in Versace for €210 million — the brand's first non-family ownership.

2019

Capri Holdings acquires Versace

On 2 January 2019, Capri Holdings (the former Michael Kors group) closes its acquisition of Versace for approximately US$2.1 billion.

2020

Versace Home furniture licensed to Lifestyle Design Group

Versace signs a licence with Lifestyle Design Group — the Italian home-design division of US-based Haworth Group — for the production and distribution of Versace Home furniture. The licence covers furniture only; textiles and accessories remain in-house, ceramics continue under Rosenthal, and wallpaper and floor tiles stay with their respective licensees.

2023

Rosenthal × Versace turns 30

The Rosenthal × Versace partnership marks 30 years with a limited mug collection that revives a 1993 design — gold-toned Barocco motifs paired with a Medusa lid.

2024

"If These Walls Could Talk" at Palazzo Versace

Salone del Mobile installation at the brand's original Milan atelier on Via Gesù 12 debuts the Medusa '95 Conversation Sofa, La Greca Bed, Lady Desk, and Moon Island sofa and armchair.

2025

Prada Group acquires Versace

Announced 10 April 2025 and closed 2 December 2025: Prada Group acquires Versace from Capri Holdings for €1.25 billion (~US$1.375 billion). The same year Donatella Versace steps down as Chief Creative Officer (effective 12 March) and becomes Chief Brand Ambassador (1 April); Dario Vitale is appointed Chief Creative Officer.

Inside

Construction

Aluminium tapered frame, satin grey

The defining design move: a tapered aluminium frame in Satin Grey varnished matt finish — narrows from a wider seat top down to compact feet. Different geometry from the rest of the Stiletto family's heel-curve silhouette; the stool reads as an architectural taper rather than a curving form.

Wood seat, padded

Seat structure in wood, padded with polyurethane and Fiberfill. The brand's framing: "Stiletto ottoman-stool by Versace Home, along with the whole namesake line of interior furnishings, is a tribute to the iconic Stiletto heel." Square seat 52 × 52 — sized as a single-sitter accent piece.

Compact stool register — 55 cm seat height

55 cm overall height places the seat at high-stool register — taller than typical lounge ottoman (which sits ~40-45 cm) but lower than counter-stool height (~65-70 cm). Sized for occasional use beside a console, vanity, or as accent seating in a hallway. The taller register also makes it easier to stand up from than a low ottoman.

Cover: fabric or leather (non-removable)

Non-removable cover in fabric or leather. The compact 52 × 52 cm seat surface lets bolder upholstery choices (graphic prints, vivid leather colours) read without overwhelming the room — the small format reads as accent, not anchor. Pair the stool's cover with a larger Stiletto piece (sofa, armchair) for register coordination.

Family register — Stiletto family extension

Part of the 2023 Stiletto family extension presented at Salone del Mobile. The ottoman-stool joined the existing Stiletto sofa, armchair, and Low at Salone 2023 alongside the bergère, the leather-top table extension, and the Discovery chair. All Stiletto pieces share the matt Satin Grey aluminium hardware register; the ottoman-stool's tapered frame is the family's most architectural geometry.

Tapered aluminium + square seat

Tapered aluminium + square seat

Detail of the family's most architectural piece — the aluminium frame tapers from the square 52 × 52 seat down to compact feet. Different vocabulary from the heel-curve sofa and armchair siblings; reads as the rationalist piece in the family. Pair as accent seating against a Stiletto sofa or armchair to add geometric variety to a Stiletto-furnished room.

52 × 52 × 55 H cm

One published size. Square footprint 52 × 52, seat at 55 cm overall height — high-stool register. Sized as an accent piece beside a console, vanity desk, or as occasional seating in entryway. The compact format pairs visually with the bench (id 431) and ottoman (id 433) as a three-scale upholstered family.

    Salone del Mobile, Milan
Stiletto family extension — tapered stool debut

The licensed manufacturer's editorial of 20 April 2023 names the tapered stool specifically: "Stiletto now extends to include a table, with new top covered in leather, a tapered stool and the bergère armchair paired with a footrest." Salone del Mobile ran 18–23 April 2023; this stool was part of the family extension at that fair.

Frequently asked

Different proportions for different uses. The bench (154 × 56 × 47 H) is long, low, rectangular — foot-of-bed or entryway register. The ottoman (id 433) is intermediate scale — typical footrest beside a chair. This ottoman-stool is 52 × 52 × 55 H — square footprint, taller stool register at 55 cm. Sized as accent seating beside a console, vanity, or in an entryway; not a footrest (the height is wrong for that). The three pieces give the family three different upholstered formats.

Because the aluminium frame tapers — narrows from the wider 52 × 52 seat top down to compact feet. The silhouette is the design feature; the brand's launch press from April 2023 calls it specifically "a tapered stool" rather than a generic ottoman. The taper is what distinguishes this piece from the rest of the Stiletto family's heel-curve geometry — the stool is the family's most architectural, most rationalist piece.

Roberto Palomba and Ludovica Serafini (Palomba Serafini Associati, ps+a studio), under the creative direction of Donatella Versace. The licensed manufacturer's editorial of 20 April 2023 attributes the 2023 Stiletto family extension — including this tapered stool — to ps+a. The same studio designed the Stiletto bergère, Stiletto chair, Discovery chair, La Greca sofa, Goddess sectional/sofa/armchair, Aeternitas Love bed, and Discovery table for Versace Home.

Salone del Mobile 2023 — Milan, 18-23 April 2023. The licensed manufacturer's news article of 20 April 2023 introduces the tapered stool as part of the Stiletto family extension at that fair, alongside the bergère with footrest, the leather-top table extension, and the Discovery chair. Same launch as the bergère (id 406), Discovery chair (id 417), and Stiletto chair (id 416).

Anywhere the room benefits from compact accent seating at higher stool register. Beside a vanity desk (the 55 cm seat works for a seated user at the typical 80 cm vanity height). At an entryway as a place to sit when removing shoes (the taller register makes standing up easier than from a low bench). In a dressing room as a single-sitter accent. As occasional seating beside a Stiletto sofa or armchair in the lounge. The compact square format and tapered frame keep it visually identifiable across uses.
